I was deciding whether or not to do a post on Christmas day, I am sure most of you will be with family and friends and not on your phone or pc. Well I guess I would hope so hence my last post. (wink) But I do know there are people that won’t be with friends or family or they won’t be spending the whole day celebrating, and maybe they’ll stumble onto my page and give it a read. So I decided to make this post about exactly that.
First of all, Merry Christmas! I hope that you will be able to celebrate this awesome holiday even if you are having it with your couch or bed.
Over the years in this industry I have realized more and more how brave models can be. I know for some travelling to a foreign country by yourself is an exciting thought. But it has always been quite scary for me. I have met so many models that have come here alone for season.
For those of you who don’t know, ‘season’ is basically our busiest work time, it’s the time of year when most clients come to Cape Town. They will do the shoot they need here and cast/audition the models they want to use here too. That is why Cape Town is model central over the summer season because half of the world’s models come here to work.
Anyway, I have met countless models that come from all over the world for season, and don’t go home for Christmas or New Years. Which would not seem so bad for some, once again, but I have always loved being around family and friends this time of year. I love knowing we will be catching up and making memories and laughing till we can’t breathe, and eating till we can’t breathe. But there are so many girls and guys that come here alone, sure they meet people along the way, and I am sure they get invited with their friend or colleagues. But my heart always goes out to those that maybe don’t have plans for this special day. I do realize some don’t mind it.
My point is. Models sometimes do things that are way out of their comfort zone. They travel by themselves, sometimes move to a place they found along their travels. They meet new people and make a way for themselves wherever they go, even if they have to spend Christmas and New Years alone.
We can continue pushing the limits of our comfort zones. I guess that will be happening for some regarding the amount of dessert you can still eat after that crazy Christmas lunch/dinner. (I probably will, ha!) But we always think that our fears are our limit. But maybe some of our fears are the beginning of our full potential. Maybe it’s a little bit cliché, but that’s what this time of year is sometimes, isn’t it? Maybe for the end of this year we should enjoy ourselves without the stress and come back into the New Year with no limitations.
It’s our choice at the end of the day how we are going to perceive Christmas, New Years and then of course 2018. Let’s take the limits off and enjoy it regardless what we have to eat, who we are with or what we’re doing.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!!
